So much has been developed on Post-Traumatic Trauma in the last 20 years. And that is wonderful. No longer do we have to pretend that “it is all in our heads.” That, for sure, it is not.
As we recover from the traumatic impact of chronic illness, Magic appears. It is not talked about often, but it is there to be received if we allow it. It is the Post-Traumatic Growth that comes with the healing of the trauma that chronic illness has created.

Post -Traumatic Growth is the positive psychological change that can occur after a person goes through a very difficult (traumatic) experience. This does not mean the trauma was “good” for the person. It does not mean that the suffering disappears. Instead, it means that people discover new strength, meaning, or perspective as they heal and live their lives.

Post-Traumatic Growth is not the same as resilience. Resilience is returning to your previous level of functioning. And that is valuable and important. Post-Traumatic Growth is life-changing in a meaningful way because of the struggle and healing of trauma.
